I’ve been running Avenue Library Code Club since September 2017, over the years I’ve seen children building confidence, learning new things and developing skills that will carry them far into their future.
When I was younger I didn’t have a safe space to share my enjoyment of code. I sat at home, tinkering away with websites and making little games on my parents PC.
When I found out about the Code Club initiative I was excited to get involved straight away and approached Manchester Libraries about starting a Code Club in my local area.
Manchester Libraries have been a fantastic support over the years and helped me advertise and build the club into what it is today. They’ve generously allowed me to use their space every other Saturday morning to create the safe space for children to learn to code.
One of my missions for the club is to make it as accessible to everyone as I can, and providing the children with good quality technology is key to delivering this mission and giving them the best experience while learning.
I’ve opened a GoFundMe page to fundraise for some new laptops for use at the club. I’ll also be running the Manchester Great Run (Half Marathon) to help with the fundraising efforts.
I’m really passionate about our Code Club here at the Avenue Library, and it would mean the world to me and the kids if you would be able to help with our fundraising efforts to upgrade our club tech.
